Activity 2 - producing a learning object related to cooperative freedom

Introduction
In this work, I tried to highlight what may be considered in cooperative freedom a contradiction: reconcile freedom and flexibility with cooperative work. For me, is, in the theory of Professor Morten, the most interesting issues.
I tried to show, raising this issue first and then indicating how the Cooperative fredoom responds to that problem. Choosing  the pictures carefully so as to be in tune with the choice of words and referring to the strategies. At end of video, I made a brief biographical of Professor Morten, referring the year in which first presented his theory, since it seems to me that the cooperative theory is different from the cooperative freedoom.

Activity 4 - Role Play

Taking  part in a simple role play which intends to give more insight in the facets of freedom presented in the readings.

_______

Inês Gouveia is a young mother of 25 years. At fifteen she became pregnant and   during three years she failed to attend school. At age 18, began working in a small company and in the evenings, completed the high school. Her daughter is now ten years old and Inês thought it was the right time to start her studies, because she wants to improve her standard of living and give the child better conditions, for example, moving to her own home , as far she has lived until now with her parents, because economic reasons. Let us hear the testimony of Inês:

When I started looking for a university that would meet my needs, I encountered some problems. I could not leave my daughter alone with my parents and, especially, I should not stop working. I live in a town where there is no university. The nearest is about 20 kilometers and has not evening classes.

A friend told me about the distance learning using new communication technologies (audio conferencing, video conferencing and computer mediated communication - CMC). I looked for information and I enjoyed the freedom of time and space, the two characteristics that, in a model of classroom teaching, were a big problem for me.
In fact, the CMC can be completely independent of time (available, ideally 24 / day, 365 days / year) providing instant access to information and a system of asynchronous communication between partners. Essential for me, too, in order to be with my daughter, is the fact that I can choose where I study - freedom of space.
I enrolled in a management course and I am very happy, since I'm able to combine studies with work and the assistance to my daughter.

Activity 3 - review on two learning objects published by colleagues

Two learning objects about Cooperative Fredoom:

How can microblog promote cooperative learning communities? - Colleagues used as a tool in the construction of their's object, VoiceThread, enabling and promoting online interactivity. And, in fact, so far have, several people had participated in the discussion. Those arguments, particularly, in this panel, it seems to me that microblogging is considered an excellent resource, facilitator of interactivity, allowing, in particular, the sharing of information very quickly. Remains under discussion if it will promote learning in cooperative communities, since there is no evidence to prove their effectiveness on this area. It may be a problem to investigate.
Colleagues, using images, present forms of communication that can be used in cooperative learning, referring to, and quoting, Morten Paulsen, that asynchronous communication is the preferred form of communication in cooperative learning environments. And that giving preference to discussion forums, more people can enjoy reading the messages, instead of using the mail where communication is one to one. Morten Paulsen, in the quote on the subject that colleagues show, argues that the forums are usually organized and structured in themes or topics, however, and interestingly, the image that colleagues used to illustrate this idea was a set of colored wires, that seems to be disorganized, not showing any kind of structure...
Still on the choice of images, since I saw this object, at the first time, I'm thinking  in the first photo used in the resource: the  handover moment in a relay race.
Relay race, in athletics, means a route which is made up of several members of a team. Each element performs the route as it shall, beetween the areas of transmission, which provides for the regulation. That is, it is a proof  where the group working is essential and without which the ultimate goal of the group is not reached. I think this essay approaches the concept of collaborative learning, since is required that students sink or swim together, as we read this article by Morten Paulsen, when he defines Collaborative learning:

Collaborative learning requires participation in a learning community, but limits individual flexibility. One may say that collaborative learning requires that students sink or swim together. Collaborative learning is common in online education offered by traditional face-to-face institutions.

And this is where I think appropriate to introduce the analysis of the second object by Sandra Brás: The Learning partner, once, describing an example of partnership in the study, gives us the basics of learning the theory of Cooperative fredoom.
Sandra has built a very simple story, using as a tool toonlet - a resource that requires particularly concise writing.
In this short cartoon we meet Mary, a student who chose online education because of the freedom and flexibility that education online  allows. However, she recognizes that, sometimes, the learning is too lonely, and then joins with to the program of NKI that promotes learning in partnership. Once she had  uploaded her profile, she find a partner, John, to whom she discusses the issues. Both show, on the end of the cartoon, very pleased with the partnership, as the results improved and John reveals that it intends to maintain  that cooperation until the end of his studies.
So, this is a process of learning that promoted some benefits of individual freedom and other benefits of cooperation in a learning community online.

How can microblog promote cooperative learning communities?
  • Collaborative learning requires participation in a learning community, but limits individual flexibility. One may say that collaborative learning requires that students sink or swim together. Collaborative learning is common in online education offered by traditional face-to-face institutions.

Activity 1 - Cooperative Freedom / annotated bibliography*

EDITORIAL

In the first activity of the Unit 1 uc Pedagogical Processes in ELearning, it has been proposed that we find, to study and we shared resources that were related to the theory of Cooperative Freedom and we did an annotated bibliography.

In this brief annotated bibliography I refer to seven features.Through the first three references sought, first, understand the concept. The fourth and fifth reference, refer to the online catalog, place where, in NKI Distance Education, users are presented, which can make your profile visible. Then in the sixth and seventh references, I refer to a post and a chapter of a dissertation which deals with the differences between 'group' and 'network', something which I think is important to realize, in the Cooperative Freedom, cooperation group, because as long as I attend the Masters Course at various times, I was asked to work in team in collaborative work and was not used the term cooperative.

Cooperative online education  - Video (published on YouTube on June 12, 2008) where Professor Morten Flate Paulsen introduces, in the first person, the theory of Cooperative Freedom in online education, referring to the year in which first appeared - 1992 - and referring to viewing the rest of the video featuring the theory through a cartoon  (published in toonlet, on May 17, 2008).

Cooperative Freedom:  An Online Education Theory   - Article where Morten Flate Paulsen presents a theory of distance education based on current theoretical perspectives and discusses how it applies to online education. According to the author, the theory of the Freedom Cooperative can provide, in online learning, both , individual freedom and cooperation in groups. It is a theory that fits the theory of autonomy independence, being influenced by the theory of andragogy (Knowles) and is intended for all those young people and / or adults who want to control their learning outcomes and be motivated.
PAULSEN, Morten Flate Online Education and Learning Management Systems, 2003 NKI Forlaget, 12 pages [www.studymentor.com]

NKI Distance Education and its learning philosophy - In this article, 5 October 2006, the elearningeuropa.info, you see the new online service for distance learning, promoted by  NKI Distance Education. The key to this philosophy of learning in distance education is, according to the text, the in community learning  and individual freedom. It covers issues such as learning partnerships, the creation of a learning community, the satisfaction of online students, the students' experiences and ways to disseminate it through their profiles.

Profiling Online Students - In this post, Morten Flate Paulsen celebrates the fact that in August 2008, NKI Distance Education online course enrollment its number one hundred thousand. At the same time, referes the  online catalog, where all registered users of NKI Distance Education make their presentations.  Morten Flate Paulsen stated that currently, all users can choose to include your presentation in the open catalog, by clicking the Global Visibility to your User Profile and a month after the catalog was released, 250 people (2.5 percent of users) had chosen the overall visibility. Morten considers this aspect as a significant development that should interest all members of  EDEN, at which publishes the blog post that we are looking for three reasons. at which publishes the blog post that we are looking, for three reasons. We give particular emphasis to the third,: being, traditionally, the student of distance learning, almost invisible compared to other groups of students, this kind of feature - online catalog - where everyone has their profile and share, can help the distance learning  student to be more visible.
The profile of Thor Steinsland in the catalog online - we considered relevant, in this annotated bibliography of our early research on Cooperative Freedom, refer to the profile of Thor Steinsland, since it was present in October 2008, the workshop of EDEN in Paris to talk about his experience as a student of distance learning. Embedded in the profile, it is published his  (slideshare) presentation. There, in a very synthesized, relates his journey as a student of distance education (slide 2), describes the importance of negotiating in family (slide 3), highlights the need for an individual plan of work (slide 4); Finally, the last slide (4), noted the importance of NKI's online catalog, the participation in forums to maintain contact with peers and teachers, the need to find partners in learning (learning partners) and share your work with partners.

Networks Versus Groups in Higher education - On this post of 17 March 2008, Terry Anderson shows the use of the network as a way to allow a more distributed learning, going, therefore, beyond learning in groups. Of the purpose of the development of lifelong learning, Anderson writes, "Networks afford opportunities for learners to associate, negotiate, plan and execute projects, on a global scale with other learners." We believe it is essential to understand this concept to understand the role of networking in Cooperative Freedom Theory.

3.3. Groups, Networks and Collectives  During the research and readings taken for the implementation of this initial work, we feel a constant need to reflect on the concept of group and individual network. Moreover, the previous reference goes that way.We found on this chapter of the work of Jose Mota, a set of references, analysis and synthesis that we believe will allow us to distinguish betwen network and group. However, it is also apparent in this reading that these are concepts whose definitions are not closed and are in discussion.

REFLECTION
In this brief reflection, when I'm completing the work in Pedagogical Processes in e-learning, I begin to highlight the quote that I refer in the sixth reference (Terry Anderson): "Networks afford opportunities for learners to associate, negotiate, plan and execute projects, on a global scale with other learners. "

In a way, the contents of all other references cited in this annotated bibliography are in line with this view of Anderson. For example, on first reference, Morten presents his theory on the network, using a video and cartoon, both online. In The profile of Thor Steinsland, Steinsland introduced his route, telling us about his project and how the developed, thus sharing its experience and making visible a way of life and learning that may serve as an example for others. I think that in this first annotated bibliography is very clear  that learning in networks can bring visibility  and this is therefore a very important aspect to understand the theory of Cooperative Freedom, because in this theory  networking is an ally individual freedom.

Actividade 1 - Cooperative Freedom / Bibliografia anotada

EDITORIAL

Nesta breve bibliografia anotada faço referência a sete recursos.

A propósito do desenvolvimento da Aprendizagem ao longo da vida, Anderson escreve: "Networks afford opportunities for learners to associate, negotiate, plan and execute projects, on a global scale with other learners."

Nesta breve reflexão, agora que estou a concluir o trabalho desenvolvido em Processos Pedagógicos em e-learning, começaria por destacar a citação que faço na sexta referência (Terry Anderson): "Networks afford opportunities for learners to associate, negotiate, plan and execute projects, on a global scale with other learners."
